Welcome to Model Flying New Zealand (MFNZ)

Model Flying New Zealand promotes and manages model aircraft flying in New Zealand. We run national competitions, help modellers to complete overseas, support fun fly-ins and rallies, develop safety guidelines, produce a magazine (four times a year) called Model Flying World, supply insurance for members, encourage clubs and liaise with Government bodies, the Civil Aviation Authority, Radio Frequency Services and other organisation. In short, we do our best to see that you can fly your model in as safe environment as possible and enjoy this fun sport.

COMING EVENTS (once things get back to relative normality)
MFNZ - the latest on COVID-19 (updated 14/05/2020).

Move to alert Level 2 and Drone/Model Aircraft flying.

Now that we have entered Level 2, clubs can contemplate getting closer to normal activity levels. The decision remains with clubs to do what suits their own circumstances. Our guidance is that the following would be acceptable in accordance with the Covid-19 restrictions for Alert Level 2. Clubs should continue to monitor what the Government is saying about gatherings of 10 or more.

 Members can:

    - Go to their local club for recreational flying.
    - Enter into the National Decentralised Competition, NDC.
We will be using the May events calendar and continue from there.
    - Take part in SIG organised competitions when the SIGs decide to restart.

 All members should:

    - Be aware of social distancing and keep 2 metres apart.
    - Avoid physical contact with other members and their equipment.
    - Keep a record of who they meet for contact tracing purposes.

Everyone should take responsibility for their personal safety and have a means of sanitising anything that they touch.

Regards

How to Safely Fly Your Drone

If you are operating a drone, you are a pilot and therefore have a shared responsibility for the safety and security of everyone.

There are basic rules you must follow to ensure you are flying your aircraft safely:

Situations vacant

> MFNZ Secretary

Before the current Covid crisis, Gill and I decided to relocate permanently back to UK to be near to our family and once international travel starts again, we will be leaving New Zealand. The secretarial job comes in three parts. All of the administration is taken care of by the Membership administrator, Paul Clegg. My role of working with the CAA and other government departments will be taken on by Chris Jackson. He already works closely with CAA in his Part 102 business and so continuity there is assured. The final part is responding to members’ inquiries, working with the FAI and Air New Zealand on overseas competition matters and maintaining the minutes of meetings. We need someone who has a love of MFNZ and a vision of how it should stay healthy. This part of the role is not too time consuming but it is vital. We need to have someone to take over the role at the AGM in July. Please give it some thought and see if you can step up.

> MFNZ Treasurer

A key role on the Council is that of Treasurer. All of the “book keeping” is done by the Membership Administrator using Xero. We need someone with an accounting background to provide the professional expertise to ensure that the accounts are properly managed. If you feel that you could undertake either of these jobs, please give me a call or drop me an email. The full job descriptions for the Council posts are here.
